LITTLE TORPEDOES

 

Little Torpedoes are for children 8 years old and under who can swim halfway across the pool either freestyle or backstroke or even both. These swimmers can compete in home meets in EXHIBITION HEATS. They can still use kickboards or swim with a High School helper until they can finally cross the pool without any form of assistance. Once they can do it, they will advance to TORPEDOES. With the coaches' approval, they can sign up for away meets.

Qualifications for Little Torpedoes

  • They can swim half of the pool in freestyle 
  • They can swim or show no fear in backstroke at least halfway
  • Must be 8 and under 

 

Little Torpedoes will ONLY swim in Home Meets in Exhibition Heats. They can still use kickboards or swim with a High School helper until they can finally cross the pool without assistance. Swimmers may start in freestyle exhibitions only. If they demonstrate sufficient skill in practice, coaches may also place them in a backstroke exhibition. Once they can do both lengths of freestyle and backstroke without help, they will finally advance to TORPEDOES. 

 

Parents, please DO NOT sign up your little torpedoes for AWAY MEETS until the coaches have moved your swimmers to TORPEDOES. The coaches WILL NOT APPROVE your swimmer’s meet declaration in any AWAY MEETS.

 

If your child is a little torpedo, you are still required to fulfill the number of jobs in a season (either in home meets or away meets). You are also required to participate and volunteer in 1 of our committees to help make the fun activities we create for the swimmer possible.

To move up and be considered a Torpedo:

  • All coaches must agree and approve that the child is ready to move up
  • Swimmer must be able to swim independently across the whole pool in freestyle 
  • Swimmer must be able to swim independently across the whole pool in backstroke 
  • No assistance is needed from the high school helpers
